Whilst I am about to discover the most profound meaning of travelling on the roads around Australia, - and to do so I actually need to be on the road - I am dealing with all sort of decisions, challenging my time managment skill like no other job has done before.

be ready to change your mind. A lot.
You know when they say: "only idiots never change their minds", well get ready to deeply embrace it while planning a lifetime trip like this one. There are so many variables that have to be taken into account and you'll find yourself changing plan few times, before you actually make a decision.
The C A R
I left you the other day announcing that I wanted to buy a 4WD.
The truth is that finding a C H E A P one, it is not impossible; finding a relyable one, it is totally another story.
If you add to that that I am not a 4WD expert, to be honest I am not a car expert at all, the mission was considerably difficult. On top of that, you need very much likely service it, and eventually fix it, then set it up for sleeping in it and basically make it into your home for the time of your trip.
And last but not least, of course you'll need the certificates (REGO and RWC - roadworthy certificate) to run, safely and ligally, your car here in Australia.
Conclusion, the car itself can be cheap, it's dotting "Is" and crossing "Ts" that would make the whole purchase quite expensive.
So I changed my mind...
The C A M P E R V A N
After hours spent looking at different websites, different campervans, different options, I have decided to rent the campervan for the whole trip. With all the comfort, certificates, 24/7 road assistance and insurance included it is going to cost me around $3550.
I will rent it from a company called Travellers Autbarn, they operate from 6 different locations Australia wide: Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney, Melburne, Perth and Darwin.
So far, they seem to have exactly what I need at a very accesable price. Once I'll actually put my hands on the van I will give you a full review, and I hope that it will help you to make your own decision.
In the next post we'll talk about hiring or buying, pros and cons and much more.
